The High Cost Of Insulin

Hey warriors in this video I wanted to
talk about one of the most important topics which is the high cost of insulin so for anyone who doesn’t know already I
have type 1 diabetes and I was diagnosed when I was 12 years old I have been
through so much with this disease including lack of access to insulin when
I was 19 years old I was already moved out and living on my
own I was just a kid trying to get by and go to school I worked a minimum-wage
job part-time and the income just didn’t cut it then the hard reality of life hit
me not only was it hard to get by pay rent buy food etc I couldn’t afford my
insulin now with some medicines you might be able to skip a dose or stop
taking completely but that’s not the case with insulin if I skip a dose I
could get really sick and die if I stopped taking insulin completely I will
die it was horrific in the scariest time in my entire life today things have
changed my husband is enlisted in the military
and thankfully due to his hard work and sacrifice I’m able to get my diabetes
supplies covered I believe without that support I wouldn’t be here but for
others that reality and nightmare is never-ending insulin prices continue to
rise and pharmaceutical companies are essentially holding our lives for ransom
you can see here how the price of insulin has continued to rise over many
years but the formula has dramatically changed at all pharmaceutical companies
with the makers of insulin are price gouging diabetics raising their prices
at the exact same time currently people are paying over $300 for one vial of
insulin diabetics from all over are sharing their outrage
seriously the prices are astonishing for those that can’t afford this cost it has
led some to ration their insulin Alec Smith is one of many who have died due
to the high cost of insulin alik a type 1 diabetic just like me or any other
type 1 are just trying to live the best quality
of life possible but struggle to afford the hormone needed to stay alive his
story has been heard all over the world organizations advocates families
supporters have all come together to fight against this injustice something
has to be done insulin is a human right and should be affordable to all I left
some links below so that you can get involved in the community and fight for
insulin for all please share this video in order to raise awareness thank you
for watching bye guys
