Nikos Dedes: “HIV in the western countries is much more a social disease than a medical condition”

We, of course, like many others believe that without a human right’s based approach there is no way that we can have a truly comprehensive response to HIV. HIV, in the Western countries, is much more a social disease than a medical condition. We have all the necessary medical treatment devices, diagnostics, doctors, to treat that part of the HIV. But the main issues are the societal, the personal, the discrimination that the groups which are affected by HIV, these are the ones that raise the barriers, whether it’s to test, or to have access to treatment.
