We’ve worked with thousands of people over the last 20 years with their nutrition and the biggest challenge we see is the ability for people To break sugar cravings if I was asking you do you now or have you in the past Struggled with sugar or refined carbohydrate cravings. What would you say? It’s likely that almost everyone watching this would say “yes I have”. In fact scientists have shown on studies with rats, that sugar is more addictive than cocaine. Now that’s a serious addiction! According to a report from the CDC in the United States alone, the number of people with diabetes is over 30 million and people with pre-diabetes is another 84 million. That is well over 100 million people suffering with blood sugar issues. It’s because of this epidemic that we are so driven to help people break their sugar addictions. Now people can use willpower to avoid sugar for weeks or even months but unless they find better ways to deal with the cravings they will almost always come back. Making success almost impossible! Now excess sugar consumption not only causes diabetes and pre-diabetes but it directly contributes to almost every major health condition. Now that includes cancer, heart disease, and high blood pressure. So it’s vitally important to reduce its use on a day to day basis. Now the challenge is that so many people have such strong sugar cravings that it seems impossible to give it up. Now these simple tips that we’re about to share are used every day in our office to help our patients reduce their sugar cravings. Number one is apple cider vinegar. Now for the past 20 years we’ve seen amazing health improvements and weight loss using apple cider vinegar. Now why? Well research has shown that apple cider vinegar can actually help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity. Which means less insulin production. Now, why is that important? Well to paraphrase Dr. Jason Fung medical doctor and author of the Diabetes Code and the Obesity Code says I can make anybody FAT I just give them insulin. So the key to weight loss and reducing sugar cravings is to reduce insulin. So when consuming apple cider vinegar, especially before a meal you’re going to feel full longer You’ll be less likely to overeat and you’re going to be much more satisfied. Now this will help you to have less sugar cravings, especially immediately following a meal. Now we’ve all been guilty of wanting dessert after dinner but if your stomach can tell your brain it’s full, then sugar cravings will significantly decrease. Now even though drinking apple cider vinegar with lemon throughout the day is a great way to hydrate and add electrolytes for the maximum blood sugar benefit we find that drinking one to three teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with about four to eight ounces of water 15 minutes before a meal is the best way if at any time you find it bothers your stomach back off the amount or stop as you might have some more involved digestive issues needing assistance. Now number two, eat more fats. Now the reason people are having great success with the Keto and Mediterranean diets is because they are high in good fats. Good fats make you feel full and therefore dramatically reduce sugar cravings. Now have you ever eaten a meal late in the day that was loaded with carbohydrates such as pasta or bread? Well the next morning you wake up hungrier than usual and you feel the need to eat right away. However, if you compare that to eating a meal high in fat and moderate protein You won’t be starving in the morning because fats digest slower than carbs and the result is more sustained energy and the ability to burn stored fat cells also known as weight loss also avoiding sugar first thing in the morning will decrease blood sugar swings throughout the day and that will provide more sustained energy in far fewer cravings. Some of the best fats are consumer by adding oils such as olive oil, avocado, coconut and flaxseed as well as grass-fed butter. Now number three consume more potassium. Now potassium is a mineral that assists in the absorption of sugar and when you have enough potassium your body takes sugar and stores it as glycogen which basically is energy that can be used later on instead of immediately. Now when you’re deficient in potassium the body must lower the blood glucose by elevating insulin and this is going to cause sugar to be stored as excess body fat causing weight gain. Now also when this happens small amounts of fat will deposit in the artery walls which is called plaquing of the arteries which is something you definitely don’t want to have happen. So eating foods rich in potassium will help keep your insulin levels low, blood sugar is much more stable and as a result this can dramatically reduce sugar cravings. So, how do we get enough potassium? Eating one half to one full avocados per day will give you a significant amount of your daily potassium needs. Other foods that are rich in potassium are beets and beet greens, spinach, raw almonds, sunflower seeds and if you’re up to the challenge, Lima beans. I’m actually going to throw in a bonus sugar craving buster for you today. This is especially good if you consider yourself to be a sugar addict. I recommend you get an herb called gymnema. I recommend the liquid version because if you drink it, it covers your tongue and tastebuds and when you consume something that normally tastes sweet it will taste completely flavorless so that sugary snack becomes a whole different experience and not one that you want to repeat. Not only will this cut your sugar cravings, but when taken long term, it has actually been scientifically shown to improve the function of the pancreas which may help a person become less insulin resistant and support type-2 diabetes. So in summary the three tips to help stop your sugar cravings are to drink apple cider vinegar before your meals, eat more good quality fats and consume more potassium rich foods. And, if you want to take it to a whole new level get some gymnema! Thank you for watching this video. If you enjoyed it, like it, share it and subscribe to our channel!
