Does Deer Antler Velvet Speed Recovery? IGF-1 and Human Growth Hormone – Thomas DeLauer

Recovery is a lot more than just consuming
protein, or foam rolling, or just stretching, or letting yourself have rest. There’s a lot of hormonal things that apply
too. People usually think that it’s just testosterone
that plays a role in building muscle or recovering in general. The reality is we have a cascade of different
hormones that are completely separate and apart from testosterone that play a role in
our recovery. I’m talking specifically about growth hormone
and insulin like growth factor. You see these two hormones play a pivotal
role in how our body recovers, but also where our body recovers. We’re going to dive into the detail of all
this, but also how you can take some steps to naturally improve your insulin like growth
factor levels and possibly even your growth hormone levels. I’m Thomas DeLauer with Antler Farms, and
let’s go ahead and get into a little bit of muscle building, muscle recovery hormonal
science. You see it all comes down to this IGF, insulin
like growth factor. The thing is is insulin like growth factor
works along with growth hormone. You see growth hormone is a hormone that’s
secreted by our pituitary gland. It’s the job of growth hormone to do a couple
of things. One is stimulates recovery, two it encourages
some brain development. It also does a lot of things when it comes
down to the brain cycle and how we actually recover in our brain, but one of the most
important things that it does is it trigger the liver to produce or release insulin like
growth factor. See insulin like growth factor works a lot
like insulin. That’s why it’s called insulin like growth
factor. The idea behind IGF is that when it’s released
it responds to cells a lot like insulin. Cells have insulin like growth factor receptors
that will actually receive the IGF. So when triggered they absorb the IGF, the
IGF triggers a process of growth and recovery to occur similar to insulin. Insulin goes to a cell and the cell opens
to let glucose in. Insulin like growth factor goes to a cell
and triggers the cell to ultimately allow certain proteins in to recover. It’s a lot like insulin, but a lot different,
and it works harmoniously with growth hormone. What’s cool is that when we work out, or when
we go through any period where we’re going to need recovery, we have a natural rise in
IGF, but as we get older and as we get more stressed out we produce less and less of this
IGF and less and less growth hormone. That’s why you see guys that go to the doctor
when they’re 50, 60, 70 years old and they get put on growth hormone replacement. They actually are taking exogenous growth
hormone to help encourage their body to produce more. Well because growth hormone is a precursor
essentially to IGF, we can’t really produce a lot of IGF if our growth hormone levels
are lower. There’s nothing we can really do to control
that, except there are some natural remedies that we can talk about in just a second. You see when you work out you break down muscle
tissue a little bit. That breakdown in the muscle tissue actually
makes that IGF receptor a little bit more open. It makes it so that IGF can go to that muscle
and trigger recovery a little bit more. But we’re actually finding through science
now that we actually have satellite IGF, IGF that is literally formed and created at the
site of the muscle. So if we work out a muscle, we can have localized
IGF growth, or IGF response I should say. What that’s going to do is that’s going to
allow that muscle to specifically grow. Otherwise what would happen is we’d do bicep
curls and it would trigger an insulin like growth factor response upon our whole body. I mean I wouldn’t mind having to go to the
gym and just doing bicep curls and having every other body part grow, but the reality
is we have localized growth that occurs there. That’s a really cool thing as we learn how
this process works. The growth hormone that we release from our
brain doesn’t just produce insulin like growth factor from the liver, it may very well be
producing it throughout the rest of the body too. So how do we get more of this awesome stuff? We want to be recovered. We want muscle density. We want muscle growth. Well the fact is it can be rather difficult. Quite honestly, unless you’re willing to go
down kind of the black market road and go under the radar a little bit, or ultimately
end up with pharmaceuticals, there’s not a whole lot you can do. But there is something known as deer antler
velvet, which is starting to pave the way in terms of how we could get this naturally. You see deer antler velvet contains bioactive
IGF. When you look at deer and you look at when
their antlers actually have velvet and when they’re going through that period of the life
stage, you’ll notice that they’re the most hormonally active at that point. What deer antler velvet is is it’s something
that is harvested from the upper and middle sections of deer’s antlers. Literally taking the velvet off of the antlers
so that it can be collected and turned into something that provides us with exogenous
IGF. The hard part is a lot of times you find that
people that harvest deer antler velvet are doing so in very inexpensive, cheap, corner
cutting way. You see the reality is when you harvest deer
antler velvet you need to be putting the deer under anesthesia so that you can actually
extract the velvet in the right way. If you’ve ever wondered why deer antler velvet
is the price that it is, it’s because you literally have to put the deer under anesthesia
and collect the velvet within a specific time frame. Has to be within about 55 days give or take. A lot of companies will sit on their inventory
and allow the deer antler velvet to become a lot older before they actually bottle it
and preserve it. So when you’re looking at deer antler velvet
sprays or deer antler velvet capsules you need to be paying close attention to how it’s
actually harvested. When it comes to deer antler velvet from Antler
Farms, this is exactly what they specialize in. Literally getting the purest, cleanest, New
Zealand deer that are going through the exact life stage necessary to get the most IGF out
of the antler velvet. Very very important and literally probably
the only company out there that pays attention to this. Because it is bioavailable and it is hormonally
active, we need to pay attention to this, otherwise you’re flushing your money down
the toilet. Don’t just settle for cheap deer antler velvet
that’s on the internet because honestly anyone can harvest it in a really cheap way. When it comes down to getting it in a true
sustainable fashion, when it’s actually at its peak when it comes down to hormones, you’re
going to want to turn to Antler Farms. That’s why they have the name Antler Farms
because literally this is what they specialize in. As always, keep it locked in here with Antler
Farms and I’ll see you in the next video.
