Does Apple Cider Vinegar Work For Weight Loss? (The Truth)

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Work For Weight Loss? (The Truth)

So if you’re into nutrition and fitness
and health, apple cider vinegar is something you’re gonna hear about. Now
you’ll hear about this a lot if you’re into blogs and you’re into YouTube
channels, you’ll hear about different kind of herbs and stuff that are magic for
weight loss and “take the supplement from this tree and you’ll be super healthy” –
there’s just lots of that stuff out there. Apple cider vinegar is something I
actually think has a lot of health benefits and there’s quite a lot of
evidence to back that up, so in today’s video I just want to go over the
question of whether apple cider vinegar can help you lose weight and if not or
if yes why and furthermore what are the other benefits of it and is it
something worth buying or…what’s the deal with apple cider vinegar, that’s
today’s video. So apple cider vinegar has been used for thousands of years
actually. A lot of ancient civilisations really saw it as a miracle
liquid. So basically how it’s made is that apples that cut up (a lot of them),
it’s combined with yeast and that kind of ferments and then good bacteria
also added to it and that creates something called acetic acid. Now, first
it’s important to understand that acetic acid is probably the main compound,
chemical in apple cider vinegar which is going to give you a lot of the
benefits that I’m about to speak about and many generic brands of apple cider
vinegar don’t have acetic acid so it’s acetic acid which you’ll find with
organic or natural or whatever brands of apple cider vinegar that generally have
acetic acid. So be sure to get the one with acetic acid. So acidic acid will
kind of give it that murky kind of look to it and it will look just very
different to the normal apple cider which is just a plain color so the
acetic acid kind of makes it cloudy and murky and about 5-6% of
the apple cider is that acetic acid and it gives it that very sour and
pungent kind of smell and odor which some people like some people don’t like
personally I reckon it’s a nice smell. But anyway let’s get to these benefits.
So in terms of weight loss there are actually some pretty significant
benefits. So, you know, you’re gonna see many
sources, some sources will tell you that there’s no benefits to weight loss and I
mean yeah it’s true like if you drink it you’re not just gonna lose weight
because you drink it, right? But what the acetic acid and apple cider in general
tend to do is that it decreases blood sugar, it decreases your insulin levels
(much like fasting or the ketogenic diet will do) and while that’s not required
for weight loss we know that the more insulin you have generally the more fat
you’re gonna have around your organs and your gut and which is why you’ll see
diabetics with huge bellies, right? Because the more insulin, the more cortisol you have, the more fat you’re gonna have around your gut. So it seems that
apple cider vinegar decreases your insulin levels and your blood glucose
and in rats even they’ve found that giving apple cider to them apple cider vinegar
to them helps them lose weight and it could be because of these effects and
it also increases your metabolic rate. There’s an enzyme called AMPK and this
increases when you consume apple cider vinegar and when this enzyme increases
your metabolic rate actually increases. So in some ways it actually increases
your metabolism. Again, the extent to which it does this may not be that
significant, so you shouldn’t rely on apple cider vinegar, you shouldn’t throw away your gym card and be like, screw it I’m never going to the gym again, let me put apple cider vinegar on top of this McDonald’s french fries because it
boosts my metabolism, don’t be an idiot. But it’s interesting to note nonetheless
because little things that boost your metabolism kind of add up, you know? You fast, you drink a bit of coffee, you eat some spicy food, you have some apple
cider vinegar and slowly all these things add up to perhaps a significant
amount which may be the difference that allows you to lose weight week to week. So that’s interesting. I remember living in my apartment like two years ago and I
took a shot of apple cider vinegar (because I was into the stuff way back
then as well). My flatmate just looked at me he’s like “what are you doing?”, I’m like,
“you don’t know about the health benefits of it?” So my point there is it might be
a bit eccentric, so instead of taking shots of it, you can get the amount you need just by sprinkling it on your salad or any other
food that kind of goes with this. You don’t need to take shots of it like me,
but that’s just the way I prefer to take it. Now another thing is that apple cider
vinegar is super good for your digestion, right? So along with controlling
your blood sugar, decreasing your insulin levels, perhaps helping with your
metabolism, decreasing appetite, it also helps with the
digestion of your food. So you can see that all these kind of variables that
are changing really are interlinked with how one manages their weight. Now there have been several studies where they’ve taken groups of people and have taken
controls and I’ve only given them like two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
per day and they’ve seen decreased weight circumference, decreased triglyceride
levels, decreased body fat percentage in general, so the benefits for such a
small amount have actually been quite profound! It’s interesting it really is
interesting and it’s gained a lot of popularity and although many people you
know the kind of like I’m not really sure about I think that the evidence is
kind of showing that it can be a great way to supplement your weight loss
routine. So, it’s not a scam, right? Apple cider vinegar is not a scam, it’s
not like the next health trend that you hear about that isn’t true but is just
being shared around, no, there’s some validity to it. Is it the
be-all end-all cure for obesity? Of course not, but is it worth trying if
you’re just looking for an edge or you’re looking to get through a plateau,
perhaps, you know? But don’t rely on it. Now, other important things that apple cider
vinegar does is it really helps with your digestion, right, it helps with your
gut bacteria out because of that good bacteria as it helps promote good gut
health which is super important for weight loss and just well-being in
general, how you think. We have neurons and we have serotonin
which is mainly produced in the gut, so how we treat our gut it’s important for
how we think and how we feel so that’s also a really good benefit. So the other
good thing about it along with helping your digestion is it kills harmful
bacteria, if it could prevent food poisoning if you have E. coli,
because it’s gonna kill that bacteria. That’s the reason I’m recommending this. I’m not the type of person to kind of make singular videos on certain herbs
and stuff like ginkgo biloba and this “herb” from China that does “this”,
because they all kind of have small potential health benefits, but apple
cider vinegar seems to be one that is really useful in so many different ways, you can clean things with it you can drink it, you can you put it on your
food, it’s antibacterial, there are so many uses for it I’d recommend just
having a bottle of organic apple cider vinegar in your home. So that’s it for
the video. The question for today is do you use apple cider vinegar, yes or no? Thanks for watching guys, as always and I will see you next time. If you’re new
